Newbrook Celtic suffered another defeat against Lakelands in Nutgrove on Sunday. Newbrook Celtic were cruelly defeated in Crumlin on Sunday. Newbrook Celtic took the lead when Monks played a ball in behind the Iveagh defense for Tanam to run on to and the big striker was bundled over in the area to win a penalty which Mick O’ Brien calmly dispatched. Newbrook were then on the back foot for much of the remainder of the first half with Iveagh boxing Newbrook in. Iveagh got back on level terms with a simple ball over the top. The second half started much better for Newbrook and they were starting to get there passing game going and were denied a certain penalty when a ball struck there centre back inside the area. Newbrook then fell behind when Monks was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area, this was a really poor decision. The Iveagh centre forward put the penalty away and Iveagh led for the first time. Newbrook were creating chances and Monks missed a one on one that would have brought newbrook back on level terms. Iveagh then broke and went 3-1 in front when a brake down the right saw them finish off a neat move to make 3-1. from the tip off Gareth Mulligan made it 3-2. Iveagh hung on to claim all three points and Newbrook felt a little hard done by.

Newbrook continued there winning ways in 2010 with a hard fought victory over a stubborn Loughshinny side in Tymon Park on Sunday morning in Tymon Park. Newbrook were down to the bare bones on Sunday with only Paul Clarke on the line. Newbrook found it hard to make any passes stick early on as they got to grips with the difficult surface. Chances for Mulligan & Renick came and went and we went in to the break deadlocked. Early in the second half Newbrook broke the deadlock when Monks rolled a quick free kick Barry Renick who drove a fierce shot that the Loughshinny keeper spilled only for Keith Jackson to bundle home to make it 3 goals in 3 games for the centre midfielder. Loughshinny got back in to the game in the 70th minute following a corner that was headed to the edge of the box the Loughshinny number 6 had time on the edge of the box and drove home. Newbrook didnt let there heads drop and were patient and got there reward in the 81st minute when Monks prodded a ball to Mulligan who picked out Moran wide on the right Moran drove at the Loughshinny defence and pulled the ball back for the hard working Paul Mulligan who finished well from 14 yards to give Newbrook a deserved win.

Gareth Mulligan opened the scoring after Barry Renick put him in for a tap in that Mulligan smashed off the cross bar to make 1-0. It was soon 2-0 when Dan Tanam slotted home after Paul Mulligan put a superb ball in across the box. Moyne were passing the ball around well but found Newbrooks defense in fine form. Marc Mc Liam deserves a special mention for a string of fabulous reaction saves, his distribution was superb as well as he set up many counter attacks. Newbrook went 3 up with what has to be goal of the season from the outstanding Gar Mulligan. He won the ball in the centre of the park and beat one man before unleashing an unstoppable shot in to the top corner from 30 yards. As Andy Gray would say “Take a bow son”. Gar Mulligan completed his hatrick at the backpost after the outstanding Barry Renick picked him out at the backpost for a tap in. Paul Mulligan made it 6-0 with a fine finish after a powerful run on the right hand side.
