Newbrook got there promotion push back on track last Sunday with a fine win out in St Ita’s. Newbrook reverted to a 4-5-1 formation which appears to suit them playing away from home. Newbrook started brightly and Mulligan and Barry Renick both had good chances to score before Gareth Mulligan continued his fine form and scored a fine goal on the turn to put Newbrook 0-1 up. There was more than a touch of good fortune about Ita’s equalizer when there centre midfielder hoofed the ball from the halfway line and unfortunately for the Newbrook stand in Keeper it dropped in to the net. It remained 1-1 until 60 minutes when a neat move down the right saw the right full Monks play a ball in behind the Ita’s defence for Barry Hanlon who crossed brilliantly for Barry Renick to score a diving header. Newbrook were in control of the game and were unlucky not to go further in front when Richie Renick and Barry Renick linked up well only for the powerful striker to be denied by a superb save from the Ita’s keeper. Mulligan, Jackson, & Johnston were in control in the centre of the park and Richie Renick and barry Hanlon were offering plenty of width, with both wingers easing past there men to link up well with Barry Renick as was the game plan. Dan Tanam was stand in keeper for the day and put in an assured performance pulling of a superb save from the Ita’s centre forward. Ita’s equalized in the 83rd minute when a free kick out wide right was hammered home at the back post. Up to and including this point Newbrook defence marshalled by skipper Luke Rock were brilliant on the day. Newbrook showed tremendous fighting spirit and were rewarded with the third goal when Greg Moran celebrating his 21st birthday latched on to a fine pass from Barry Hanlon and scored via both posts to cap off a well earned victory.

Newbrook got back to wining ways on Sunday morning in Tymon Park in the Leinster Junior Shield against Caim United from Eniscorthy in County Wexford. Newbrook made some changes to the team beaten the week before with Joey Kelly coming in for the absent Dan Tanam. Newbrook started brightly and could have been in front with Barry Renick again playing a staring role up top, Richie Renick was having a fine game and beating his man with ease on the left and putting in some fine balls. Newbrook’s defence looked solid with Creed, Rock, Mc Nevin & Monks keeping the Caim attack out. Newbrook’s midfield looked sharp & creative with Jackson & Mulligan linking up well in the centre and Moran and R. Renick offering plenty of width. Newbrook should have had a penalty late in the first half when Kelly and Barry Renick linked up and the keeper hauled down Renick but no penalty given. 15 minutes in to the second half and Newbrook broke the deadlock when Barry Renick played a fine angled ball for Greg Moran to run on to and finish well low down to the keepers right. Newbrook moved the ball around well and found themselves 2 up when Barry Renick was hacked down inside the box. The striker dusted himself down and cooly dispatched the penalty. Newbrook then scored there third goal after a neat move ended up with Barry Hanlon putting in a brilliant cross for Joey Kelly to head home at the back post. Newbrook progress to round two of the shield and will be hoping to bring this performance to in to there next match.

Newbrook Celtic left Blackrock early Sunday afternoon with no points after a topsy turvey encounter against Seaford. Newbrook got off to a slow start with the Seaford midfield playing some nice short passing before the centre midfielder slotted home to make it 1-0. Newbrook got back in to the game when the seaford keeper miskicked and hauled Dan Tanam down to the ground. Barry Renick expertly slotted the penalty home. Newbrook were much the better side and the second half got under way with a corner for Seaford came back out to the right back who lofted a ball in to the box and amazingly it hit the top corner. Two more goals went in for Seaford before Newbrook decided to get themselves back in to the game. Paul scored a fine goal inside the 6 yard box and Gareth Mulligan added another to set up a tense finish. Newbrook had chances but this was Seafords day and many of the Newbrook Players will be looking forward to the return game where they can make amends for this result. All in all a disapointing defeat for Newbrook.
