Newbrook recorded a second home defeat in a row, losing out by the odd goal in 3 to St Itas in Tymon Park. An understrength Newbrook were missing a few regulars due to injury & unavailability but saw the return after 2 & 1/2 years of goalkeeper Marc MacLiam following knee surgery. Last years captain Roger Phelan also made his 1st start of the season. Dano Tannam & Greg Moran returned to the starting line up but it was the visitors who made the early running. 0-0 at half time but 2 early goals for the away side turned the game on its head. The 1st from a long ball over the top that wasn’t dealt with and the 2nd was a header at the far post from a corner. Newbrook continued to attack and created many chances which went unconverted. With 8 minutes remaining Barry Rennick pulled one back from the spot. With time ticking away 2nd half sub Joe Kelly attacked down the right wing and sent a low ball across the 6 year box which deceived the Itas centre half and also the inrushing Rennick.
Team: MacLiam, McNevin, Jackson, Phelan, Rock (Capt.), Hanlon, Moran, Johnson, Teeling, Rennick, Tannam. Subs: P Mulligan for Teeling (60). Kelly for Johnson (82).

Newbrook got back to winning ways in Dundrum on Sunday afternoon with a hard fought victory against a battling Dundrum. Newbrook Celtic reverted back to the formation that served them so well in the double winning season packing the midfield and leaving just one up front. Dan Tanam was the unfortunate one to miss out with Barry Renick leading the line up front on his own and the latter put in a man of the match performance scoring one and creating one. The first half ended 0-0 after chances at both ends. The only other point of note was the withdrawal of talented left full Johnnie Lane as he went in to win a ball and was pushed by the centre midfielder from Dundrum, Lane who was clearly hurt was more interested in finding out who had pushed him rather than receive treatment. Lane will be missing for a few weeks now with shoulder tissue damage. Graham Mc Nevin came in at left back and as usual didn’t look out of place and put in another solid performance. Newbrook broke the deadlock from a throw in wide left by Dennis which was flicked on by Gareth Mulligan and broke to Barry Renick who finished on the half volley. Newbrook made it 0-2 from a corner from the left swung in by Hanlon and scrambled home by the promising Keith Jackson. Mark Doyle rolled back the years and pulled off a brilliant reaction save from a free kick 22 yards out . Graham Johnston deserves a mention for his performance yesterday the centre midfielder worked tirelessly for the entire 90 minutes. Newbrook made it 0-3 when Barry Renick out wide left managed to put a cross in for the on rushing Paul Mulligan to finish at the back post. A good win and a clean sheet in an away fixture left boss Flanagan happy and gets Newbrook back on track.

A disappointing morning for Newbrook Celtic in Tymon Park on Sunday where they suffered there first defeat of the season at the hands of the well organized Lakelands. Lakelands found themselves 2 up inside the first twenty minutes before a flowing move by Newbrook Celtic ended in a well taken goal by young right winger Greg Moran following a fine ball from the excellent Barry Renick. Right on the stroke of half time Lakelands grabbed a third goal when a shot was parried out by Mc Evoy in the goal only for the lakelands attacker to slot home from close range. Newbrook pressed and pressed in the second half but couldn’t find the net and Lakelands left Tymon Park with all three points.

Newbrook make it three from three with another win in Tymon Park on Sunday against a physical Blackforge side. Newbrook made one change from the previous week with Johnie Lane coming in for Graham Mc Nevin. Newbrook started brightly and found them selves 1-0 up with the goal of the season so far from the increasingly impressive Gar Mulligan, who smashed one in to the top corner from 30 yards. It remained 1-0 until the break early in to the second half Dan Tanam set up Gar Mulligan who finished well from 12 yards. Dan Tanam then got on the score sheet himself after a flick on from Gar Mulligan. Hanlon & Moran were offering plenty of width and Graham Johnston was as busy as ever crashing in to tackles in the middle of the park. Richie Renick was making good use of the ball and linking well with the attackers. Paddy Mc Evoy had very little to do with a water tight defence in front of him with new skipper Rock marshalling the defence very well along with Johner Tanam and the exceptionally composed Johnie Lane. Newbrook wrapped up the game to make 4-0 with a diving header from Greg Moran following another fine assist from Dan Tanam. Newbrook now sit top of the league with 17 goals scored and 4 conceeded.
