26 08 2009Newbrook Celtic opened the season with a win in a high scoring game in Tymon Park. Newbrook started slow and were one down inside the first fifteen minutes when a corner from the left was headed home at the back post. Newbrook moved the ball around well and were awarded for there hard work when the hard working Dan Tannam put Barry Renick in on goal only to be denied by the Leicester keeper, a penalty was duly awarded and dispatched by skipper Renick. Newbrook then took control of the game when a corner swung in by Barry Hanlon was powered home by the impressive Gareth Mulligan. Dan Tannam then put Newbrook 3-1 up with a neat finish following good work by Barry Renick. Newbrook pressed and pressed for more goals but to Leicester’s credit they never stopped and were awarded with a fine goal when the right winger cut in and un-leashed and unstoppable shot in to the top corner. Gareth Muligan then scored another header following a free kick from Barry Renick and Dan Tannam capped an impressive start to the season with another goal following neat work from his strike partner. The game sprang in to life for Leicester in the last 5 minutes when they scored 2 sloppy goals to make the score Newbrook Celtic 5 Leicester Celtic 4. Leicester Celtic pushed for an equalizer but Richie Renick on as a sub marked his debut with a fine finish inside the box to seal the victory for Newbrook Celtic. Debuts on the day included Paddy Mc Evoy at centre back and Richie Renick who played on the left and right wing. Sunday also marked the first start for Greg Moran in a competitive game.
