Season ends in defeat

28 05 2009

A deflated and flat performance saw Newbrook loose there final game of the season at home to Knocklyon on Thursday night.  Knocklyon took the lead with ten minutes gone from a corner that was flicked in at the near post.  Newbrook made a tactical change on 30 minutes with Monks coming off for Brady.  Newbrook found themselves 0-2 down with a neat move down the right hand side finished off by the Knocklyon stiker.  Newbrook battled hard in the second half but were picked off on the break by Knocklyon with the centre forward having an easy tap in to make it 0-3.  Newbrook got a goal back with Gareth Mulligan back in his favoured position scrambled the ball home to make it two in two.  So the season ends in defeat for Newbrook we can now begin to build for next season ensuring that we are in the mix in cups and league.

Newbrook claimed all three points on a blustery night in Leicester through a late Gareth Mulligan Header.  Newbrook, out for some revenge against a team who performed a smash and grab in Tymon Park before christmas,  started well, with Shane Kelly rounding the keeper and hitting the side netting with the shot.  Leicester were defending deep and pumping long balls up front for there attackers to run on to but Renick & Tanam were more than capable of quashing this threat.  Early in to the second half Mark Dolye rushed of his goal line and was hurt in a collison with the Leicester attacker.  Mark had to be taken off,  so Peter Renick went in goal with Graham Johnston coming in to the centre of the park and Deano Broch moving to centre back.  Newbrook were psuing & pushing for the opening goal and it finally came with 8 minutes to go following a pin point cross from substitute Simon Monks right on to the head of Mulligan.  Newbrook should have won by a far greater margin than one goal.  Newbrook now move on to there final league game with Knocklyon United on 21st May.
