Season ends in defeat

28 05 2009

A deflated and flat performance saw Newbrook loose there final game of the season at home to Knocklyon on Thursday night.  Knocklyon took the lead with ten minutes gone from a corner that was flicked in at the near post.  Newbrook made a tactical change on 30 minutes with Monks coming off for Brady.  Newbrook found themselves 0-2 down with a neat move down the right hand side finished off by the Knocklyon stiker.  Newbrook battled hard in the second half but were picked off on the break by Knocklyon with the centre forward having an easy tap in to make it 0-3.  Newbrook got a goal back with Gareth Mulligan back in his favoured position scrambled the ball home to make it two in two.  So the season ends in defeat for Newbrook we can now begin to build for next season ensuring that we are in the mix in cups and league.

Leicester Celtic 0 Newbrook Celtic 1

20 05 2009

Newbrook claimed all three points on a blustery night in Leicester through a late Gareth Mulligan Header.  Newbrook, out for some revenge against a team who performed a smash and grab in Tymon Park before christmas,  started well, with Shane Kelly rounding the keeper and hitting the side netting with the shot.  Leicester were defending deep and pumping long balls up front for there attackers to run on to but Renick & Tanam were more than capable of quashing this threat.  Early in to the second half Mark Dolye rushed of his goal line and was hurt in a collison with the Leicester attacker.  Mark had to be taken off,  so Peter Renick went in goal with Graham Johnston coming in to the centre of the park and Deano Broch moving to centre back.  Newbrook were psuing & pushing for the opening goal and it finally came with 8 minutes to go following a pin point cross from substitute Simon Monks right on to the head of Mulligan.  Newbrook should have won by a far greater margin than one goal.  Newbrook now move on to there final league game with Knocklyon United on 21st May.

Cruel Decesion Cost’s “Brook” all 3 points in Castleknock.

29 04 2009

Everton 1 Newbrook Celtic 1

Newbrook were harshly denied all three points last night in Castleknock when a late penalty was awarded when the brilliant Rock was adjudged to have fouled the Everton forward. This was a terrible decision and in truth the only way Everton were getting back in to the game because of the brilliant handling by Mark Doyle and composed defending by Renick & Tanam in the heart of the Newbrook defence. Newbrook started brightly with Mulligan giving the Everton 7 & torrid time down the right. Gareht Mulligan was back in his preferred position centre midfield with Graham Johnston, both were combining well with one off and one on as instructed by Coach Massey before the game. Newbrook were determined to put the hurt of three weeks earlier behind them and right from the start they outplayed there Northside counterparts. Everton had a couple of early chances with there number 10 unlucky not to hit the target with a volley from the left of the area. Renick had a great chance to make it 0-1 when he was put in by Deano but his shot was well saved by the Everton custodian. Newbrook went 0-1 up in the 39th minute through Deano when he hit a well placed shot in to the top corner following a flowing move by Brook. In to the 2nd half and Everton were pilling on the pressure but Brooks defence stood solid. Then cruelly in the 78 minute following a corner the Everton attacker with his back to goal went down very very easy and the referee awarded a spot kick which was hammered bottom left to make it 1-1. Newbrook & Everton both pushed for a winner but it ended 1-1 in Castleknock.

Seaford Rock 1 Newbrook Celtic 2

28 04 2009

Newbrook kept the pressure up on the league frontrunners on Sunday with a tight 2-1 win away to Seaford. Newbrook had early chances from 2 successive corners but could not force the opener. Following another corner after 20 minutes, early substitute Gareth Mulligan won a header at the edge of the box which was flicked on to Johnner Tannam lurking around the 6 yard box to flick past the home keeper. The home side attacked and the direct passing caused some nervy moments in the brook defence. One of these balls found the Rock striker clean through after 30 minutes and he rounded Mark Doyle to restore parity. Doyler again had to thwart the home attack with a save with his legs just before half time. The 2nd half was a tight affair, only livened up by a 2nd goal from Tannam, who headed home at the far post. Despite some nervy moments ta the finish Newbrook did enough to see the game out.

Team: Doyle, Rock, Brennan, J Tannam, Hanlon, P Mulligan, Johnson, Brock, D Tannam, Rennick, Kelly. Subs; G Mulligan, McNevin.

Newbrook Celtic 10 – Phoenix 0

22 04 2009

Newbrook Celtic set a new club record last night in Tymon Park on a lovely spring evening.  Brook started off well and were 1 up in the 7th Minute when Dan Tanam bundled home from close range.  Brook went 2-0 up following a lovely move involving Hanlon,  Tanam,  & finally Broch finishing off after rounding the keeper.  Brook were 3-0 up when Barry Renick scored a header following a Hanlon cross.  With this goal Barry Renick became Brooks all time leading goal scorer.  Newbrook Celtic were bossing the game and playing some lovely football.  Graham Johnston deserves a special mention for what was a masterclass performance in the centre of the park.  Newbrook scored further goals through Hanlon from the penalty spot and Shane getting off the mark following up well to slot home from 6 yards,  Paul Mulligan also got in on the act with a crisp drive following another shot blocked from close range.   There was two hatricks scored last night one from the outstanding Broch & one from the hardworking Dan Tanam.  Newbrook wiped the floor with Phoenix last night and played some outstanding football,  we had been threatining to get a result like that all season and last night was the night.

Recent Games

22 04 2009

Since beating Terenure at home, Newbrook have recorded a 2-0 victory away to Blackrock and sufferred a heartbreaking 2-1 last minute home defeat to Everton. Last Sunday saw a dogged performance by ‘brook and 2 goals from Dano Tannam was enough to see off the home side. The previous week saw Everton, via a last minute penalty winner, record a 2-1 win and all but end title hopes for 2009. A spirited 2nd half comeback, with a goal from Graham Murphy, saw the home side fall agonisingly short following the concession of a needless penalty in the dying minutes of the game.
